A second forest fire was reported Monday night near the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The second fire comes as firefighters have achieved 100 percent containment of a 617-acre wildfire containment area in portions of Bass River State Forest in Burlington County and Little Egg Harbor Township in Ocean County.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is making substantial progress in containing the second wildfire reported at about 10:20 p.m. Monday in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, near Pea Patch and Turkey Buzzard roads.
The large wildfire was reported to be burning in the area west of Four Mile Road, which was closed to reduce traffic while firefighters work the fire. The Batona Trail has been closed to public use in the area of the fire. The current containment area of the fire is approximately 407 acres.
Work crews will remain at the scene for cleanup purposes and to maintain public safety at the Little Egg Harbor fire site. Smoke is expected to remain in the area for several days due to warm and dry weather conditions. There were no injuries reported, structures damaged, or evacuations conducted.
