Jackson police seeking to identify hit and run suspect who struck pedestrian

JACKSON, NJ – On Sunday at 6:55 pm, police officers responded to the area of Cedar Swamp Road for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers were able to determine through investigation that a light-colored SUV, possibly a white or silver Chrysler Aspen, was traveling northbound on Cedar Swamp Road.

The suspect vehicle left its lane of travel and struck a pedestrian identified as Paul Reed Jr. Mr. Reed was walking in the shoulder of the northbound lane and sustained serious injuries after being struck. After impact the vehicle continued traveling northbound.

Approximately 1 minute later the vehicle is observed on video surveillance traveling southbound back past the scene of the crash.

At this time the Police Department is requesting assistance in identifying the following vehicle and or driver. The passenger-side mirror was broken off of the vehicle from the impact and recovered at the scene. The passenger side front fender appears to have a dent and there appear to be black scuff marks on the driver side front bumper. The crash is currently under investigation by the Jackson Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit. Any witnesses are asked to contact Officer Joseph Pante #292 at 732-928-1111 Ext. 5292 / JPante@jacksontwpnj.net.
