Pedestrian struck and killed in Las Cruces, police investigating

LAS CRUCES, NM – Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate a Friday evening crash that critically injured a 37-year-old pedestrian.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, June 11, Las Cruces police and fire were dispatched to the crash that occurred near the intersection of west Picacho Avenue and Melendres Street. A 37-year-old woman suffered critical injuries and was initially transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center.

Because of the nature of her injuries, and the need for more advanced care, she was then flown to University Medical Center of El Paso. As of Thursday, she remains hospitalized at UMC.

Investigators learned a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west on Picacho when it struck the pedestrian who may have been trying to cross the roadway. The 67-year-old driver of the Malibu remained on scene and has been cooperative with police.

Any witnesses to the crash, who have not already spoken to police, are asked to call LCPD Traffic investigators at (575) 526-0795.
