Topps loses exclusive MLB trading card license after 70 years

by Charlie Dwyer

Do you remember trading cards? They were all the rage in the 1960s through the 1990s. Even though their prominence has diminished, card companies still produce products each year and Topps, until now has been the king of the trading card industry.

Now, after 70 years, Topps will be losing their exclusive licensing agreement with Major League Baseball. The contract expires after the 2025 season and MLBPA has announced online retailer Fanatics, owned by 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Michael Rubin will take over.

If that wasn’t bad for Topps, the NFL and NBA have also gone to Rubins company. Those leagues have had deals with Panini America.
