Explosion rocks Kabul Airport hours after Biden administration issues dire warning

The U.S. State Department Wednesday night warned Americans to stay away from the Kabul Airport. It also warned that any Americans stranded outside the gates of the airport were to leave immediately. The alert was issued at around 5:30 pm Eastern Time.

“Because of security threats outside the gates of Kabul airport, we are advising U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time unless you receive individual instructions from a U.S. government representative to do so,” the State Department warned.

This morning, an explosion rocked the airport and as of now, it is uncertain what took place, but the dire warning could suggest a terrorist attack, one that was on the radar of the U.S. intelligence community.

“We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can,” State Department Secretary John Kirby said this morning.

Moments ago, the Daily Telegraph reported the explosion was at the U.K. run Abbey Gate and was a suspected terrorist attack, possibly a suicide bombing followed by a firefight.
