One shot after confronting car burglar in Columbus

Today, August 30, 2021, at 1:50 am, Columbus Police Officers were called to Grant Medical Center on a report of a patient with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers learned 27-year-old Marcus Payne had been driven to Grant by his brother 30-year-old Mark Payne. The preliminary investigation revealed the brothers had followed and confronted some individuals they suspected of breaking into Mark’s vehicle. During the confrontation, one of these individuals produced a handgun and fired, wounding Marcus. Following the shooting, Mark drove Marcus to Grant for treatment. Due to the severity of Marcus’ injuries, CPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating this incident.
