Vice squad arrest cocaine dealer who assaulted cop in Worcester

Worcester, MA – On September 2nd 2021, officers assigned to Worcester Police Vice Squad were conducting surveillance in the area of Lovell St. At about 11:45 AM, officers observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand transaction between a male on foot and a male in a vehicle. Officers followed the male in the vehicle, who was identified as Patrick Campbell, fifty-one-years-old of Hitchcock Rd. Officers observed Mr. Campbell drive to a Chandler St business, where he exited his vehicle, briefly entered a Subaru parked in the lot, and returned to his vehicle.

Officers stopped the male in the Subaru and identified him as Carlyle Hines, forty-five years old of Cargill Ave. Mr. Hines had a revoked license, and officers placed him under arrest. They discovered several bags of what appeared to be crack cocaine in the vehicle.

Officers attempted to stop Mr. Campbell near the area of Rockwood Ave. When officers approached his vehicle, Mr. Campbell got out and attempted to run. Officers caught up to him, and he grabbed them and attempted to push them away. After a lengthy struggle in which Mr. Campbell resisted arrest and tried to bend an officer’s fingers the wrong way, he was placed in handcuffs. Officers discovered over 138 grams of what appeared to be crack cocaine, packaged in over thirty plastic bags in Mr. Campbell’s vehicle.

Carlyle Hines is charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle after Suspension or Revocation of License, and Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute. Patrick Campbell is charged with Trafficking in Cocaine over 100 Grams, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Operation of a Motor Vehicle after Suspension or Revocation of License, and Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute.
