Media Fact Checker Newsguard bumps Shore News Network rating up

Press Release

Newsguard, one of the leaders in the media fact-checking industry has increased the ‘nutrition fact-checking label’ of Shore News Network by 12.5 points in their 1 to 100 based rating.

Newsguard is lead by Co-CEOs Steven Brill and Gordon Crovitz, who according to the company’s about page are veteran journalists and news entrepreneurs. Brill founded The American Lawyer, Court TV, and the Yale Journalism Initiative. Crovitz was publisher of The Wall Street Journal and a columnist for the paper. Newsguard was founded in 2018 and is quickly becoming a leader in the emerging media fact-checking industry.

Since its initial rating of 75/100 in 2020, Shore News Network has worked hard to improve itself in the areas critiqued by Newsguard. This week, Newsguard rated Shore News Network 87.5/100.

In comparison, Fox News is rated 69.5/100, CNN is 80/100, and MSNBC is 70/100.

The company has been instrumental in combatting the rise of misinformation in the news media and on social media platforms.

“Although many of our readers brand Shore News Network as ‘conservative media’, we strive to make sure all of our articles are based on facts and not emotions or partisan influence,” owner and editor Phil Stilton said. “When we launched Shore News Network, our mission was to create a truly fair and balanced news network that holds both sides of the political aisle accountable while maintaining the core values of what has made America great since its inception in 1776.”

Stilton says while Shore News Network is a small fish playing in a big pond, it has achieved its success through partnerships with national players. In September, Shore News Network secured content licensing through the Daily Caller News Foundation, originally founded by Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“Our content licensing agreement with the Daily Caller News Foundation has allowed us to cover topics at a level of quality that was nearly impossible to us prior,” Stilton added. “That relationship has been well received by our readers who may not have known about or followed DCNF prior to our licensing agreement.”

This month, Shore News Network will enter into a one-year agreement for content licensing with Reuters for quality U.S. news.

“We have been going back and forth with all of the major wire services and chose Reuters because they are the most fair and balanced newswire service that doesn’t push any political agendas or ideologies,” Stilton added. “We look forward to being able to grow our content library with top-shelf, quality journalism.”

In an era of media misinformation and overzealous fact-checking by social media networks Facebook and Twitter, Shore News Network stays away from the temptation of getting too deep in the weeds on topics such as COVID-19, vaccinations and partisan political issues.

“We are proof that you can be somewhat aligned to a core value, but not be in the tank for those who seek to weaponize and politicize that core value,” Stilton, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with over 25 years experience in the digital and print news media industry. “We’re not in this to push an agenda. We’re into this to succeed as a news media business where others have failed and are in decline. We accomplish that goal by standing true to our core values but delivering the message in a fair, truthful, brutally honest, and straightforward manner. We’re not here to make friends in high places like many of our competitors.”
