Shore man finally charged after sexually assaulting two girls, 5 and 10 decades later

MAYS LANDING- Brian Lee Avis has been detained at the Atlantic County Justice Facility following a detention hearing this morning, after he was charged in connection to the sexual assaults of two girls, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

Avis was charged last week by Galloway Township Police for the sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl in 2003, and after he was also charged by the Brigantine Police Department and the New Jersey State Police with the sexual assault of a 10-year-old Brigantine girl in connection to a 25-year-old case in Brigantine, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

Avis appeared before Judge Donna Taylor during a detention hearing on Sept. 27, 2021. Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Flammer represented the state in these matters. This remains an active investigation.
