16 Year-old Arrested and Charged with 1st Degree Murder in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – 16 Year-old Arrested and Charged with the 1st Degree Murder of a 15 Year-old Girl.

On August 10, 2021, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Southwest District patrol officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Gelston Drive to investigate a reported shooting. When officers arrived at the location they observed 15 year-old Ja’Nyi Weeden suffering from an apparent gunshot wounds. Medics were summoned to the scene and transported the victim to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment.

Medical personnel determined Ja’Nyi’s injuries unsurvivable and she was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Homicide detectives assumed control over the investigation, identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. On October 15, 2021, a 16 year-old juvenile male was arrested and formally charged with the 1st Degree Murder of Ja’Nyi Weeden.
