School board member under fire for class trip to gay bar

ISLAND CITY, FL – It’s probably inappropriate to take elementary school students on a class trip to a bar. Many others on Twitter thought it was even more egregious to take students to a gay bar.

Now, Broward County school board member Sarah Leonardi is under fire for chaperoning a class trip for students at Wilton Manor Elementary School to Rosie’s Bar and Grill. Rosies is a well known gay bar, which describes itself as, “Busy gay-friendly spot luring diners with a festive patio, Sunday brunch & quirky comfort-food menu in Wilton Manors”

The menu at the restaurant includes such culinary staples as Sweaty Lovin’, Pisa Envy, Naked Sweaty Lovin’, the Miley High burger, the Young Ranch Hand, and a full menu of ‘Big Girl Burgers’.

“I was SO honored to be invited to chaperone @WiltonManorsES’s field trip to the incredible Rosie’s! The students and I had a fun walk over and learned a lot about our community! A huge thank you to @RosiesBnG for hosting this special field trip every year,” Leonardi posted on Twitter.

“When is [it] appropriate to take kids to a bar and grill. Seriously kids in a bar as a field trip. Perhaps more traditional field trips would be educational and not absurd,” said Tammy Morris.

“I’m gay and think elementary school students going on a field trip to a gay bar is ridiculous. WTF,” another responded.

“Now I’m going to have to get involved. My kids are in college and I thought I was done. I hoped Broward would stay out of the insanity, but here we are,” said Eve, a Broward County resident.
