72-year-old killed crossing street night before Thanksgiving in Lacey

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ –  On Wednesday, November 25, 2021, at 7:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to Beach Boulevard for the report of a pedestrian struck.  The preliminary investigation revealed that a 72-year-old Forked River man stepped into the lane of travel as he began to cross the road when he was struck.  The driver, a 19-year-old male, was traveling westbound with his juvenile sister as a passenger when the accident occurred.  Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor to the accident.

Lacey Township EMS and RWJ Paramedics responded to the scene.  As a result of injuries sustained during the accident, the victim succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.  The driver and passenger were not injured during the accident and denied medical attention.

The collision remains under investigation by Sergeant George Resetar and Patrolman Michael Baldasari.  The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit also participated in the investigation.

Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation should contact Patrolman Baldasari at (609) 693-6636, 2542.
