Tractor-trailer driver issued summons after excavator he was hauling fell on car in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ – On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at approximately 5:40 PM police units were dispatched to the intersection of Whitesville Road and Route 70 for a reported motor vehicle accident. Christoph Caches, 56 of Toms River, stated that he was driving west on Route 70, towing a trailer loaded with an excavator, and made a right turn onto Whitesville Road.

Once he made the turn, his trailer flipped over and the excavator landed on a vehicle that was stopped on Whitesville Road for a red signal. Neither driver was injured in the accident.

Mr. Caches was issued a summons for Careless Driving. The accident remains under investigation by the Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.
