KEY WEST, FL – Key West Police arrested a fugitive wanted for a sex offense against a five-year-old child less than 24 hours after receiving notification that the Missouri man might be in Key West.
Detectives and officers immediately began scouring the island, looking for 72-year-old Steven Pope and the vehicle he was last known to drive.
With the use of police resources and tips from the community, Pope was located in a hotel room on North Roosevelt Blvd. Pope refused to open the door. After being barricaded in the room for over two hours, the department’s Special Response Team was able to enter the room and arrest the suspect.
