HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are investigating the shooting of a woman located at a hospital at 5656 Kelley Street about 8:20 a.m. on Saturday (January 15). The victim, Jazzirelle McCowan, 31, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives J. Roberts and A. Don reported:
Ms. McCowan was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a male traveling on the 610 East Loop somewhere between the Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) and the Houston Ship Channel Bridge when, about 7:30 a.m., their vehicle was bumped from behind by what was described as a white Cadillac DTS or STS.
The suspect(s) then pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle, displayed weapons and then fired a shot at the male driver, but he was not struck. The suspect(s) then pulled around to the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle and fired additional shots into the vehicle, striking McCowan in the lower back.
