This is unacceptable: Stray bullet from shooting kills D.C. woman

D.C. Metro Police Chief Robert Contee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A woman was killed by a stray bullet at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the area of Division Avenue Northeast, prompting Washington Metro Police Department Chief Robert J. Contee to condemn the violence that is plaguing the city.

“This is unacceptable,” Chief Contee said.

Officers who heard the gunshots that rang out exited their cars. They immediately heard screaming coming from a nearby vehicle and discovered a woman who had been shot.

The individuals in the car were not the intended targets of the shooting, Contee said, “They were shooting at someone else.”

Contee said the victim and the other passengers in the car passed through the location where the shooting took place. She was killed and attempts to revive her by police were unsuccessful. He is now asking for witnesses to come forward, offering a reward. He added the shooting does not appear to be related to three other shootings that took place within the same hour on Wednesday in that area.
