LEE COUNTY, FL – Today, Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced the termination and arrest of a Lee County deputy.
On December 16, 2021, former Lee County deputy, Niko Irizarry, conducted a traffic stop that resulted in an arrest. The arrestee was then determined to be a victim when further investigation revealed that the traffic stop was part of a scheme fueled by personal hatred. Niko Irizarry and two other civilians were involved in planting Fentanyl and other narcotics in the victim’s car. When the traffic stop occurred, narcotics were located and the victim was arrested.
A complaint was filed and a task force was created to investigate this unlawful traffic stop. Today, all three involved suspects were located, arrested, and charged accordingly. Deputy Irizarry was subsequently terminated from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
“Transparency remains a priority for Sheriff Marceno, and today’s announcement reinforced his mission to deliver the highest level of service to the citizens of Lee County,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
