Young girl recovering after falling from gondola at Florida State Fair

TAMPA, FL – Police in Tampa are reporting a young girl is recovering after a fall from a gondola ride at the Florida State Fair Saturday Night.

The incident happened at around 8:40 p.m., when three minors, all family members under the age of 10, were riding the gondola across the fairgrounds when a seven-year-old girl slipped under the safety bar and fell 35-40 feet down onto a grassy area.

“Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue paramedics responded immediately to the scene and were able to take her to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The girl may have suffered only a broken wrist in the fall. After an investigation, HCSO detectives have determined this to be an accident.
The gondola ride was shut down for a time and is now back and in operation. Any questions regarding the ride should be directed to the Florida State Fair.
