Armed Copper Thief Flees Police in Suffolk County

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK – An SCPD police officer was in the parking lot of Home Depot in North Patchogue for Park, Walk & Talk, during which an officer visits with store owners to discuss any concerns. During the visit, a couple was leaving the store with more than $1300 worth of stolen copper wire.

Alerted by a security guard, the police officer was able to apprehend the woman immediately, while the man fled in a stolen 2013 Dodge Ram 1500. He was stopped by patrol officers a short time later.

The man was arrested, the stolen car was impounded, and a loaded handgun was located inside the vehicle. Fifth Squad detectives charged the woman with Grand Larceny 4th Degree, and the man with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Grand Larceny 4th Degree.
