Persichilli: 50% of those still hospitalized in New Jersey are fully vaccinated

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Department of Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli on Wednesday released eye-opening data detailing the vaccination rates among those still hospitalized in the state for COVID-19.

Of the 963 COVID-19 patients in New Jersey hospitals on Thursday and 99 on ventilators, Persichilli said 50% are fully vaccinated. Of that 50%, Persichilli said 35% were unboosted. 65% of those vaccinated had received booster shots.

“We still see increasing deaths,” Persichilli said. “Deaths are decreasing in hospitals, but those are among those who are unvaccinated.”

Persichilli said that being boosted significantly lowers the chances of severe COVID-19 complications and death.
