Here’s why Ukrainians are putting styrofoam in the Molotov cocktails for Russian invaders

The Ukrainian people have united and videos on social media show Ukrainian civilians creating thousands of homemade Molotov cocktails to greet invading Russian troops when they enter their towns and cities.

One of the things you’ll see in these videos is the Ukrainian people putting shaved styrofoam into the lethal cocktails, but why?

Last week, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry encouraged its citizens to make the bombs and even provided a recipe. The guide issued by the government shows how to make incendiary devices and how to target different styles of Russian military vehicles.

But what’s the styrofoam for?

The defense ministry distributed a recipe for producing Molotov cocktails to civilians through Ukrainian television, which included the use of styrofoam as a thickening agent to aid in helping the burning liquid stick to vehicles or other targets.

Otherwise, the light petroleum fuel would not adhere to the vehicle’s armor plating. The styrofoam dissolves in gasoline, making the liquid thicker.
