WASHINGTON, DC – A Washington, D.C. father,  Sedrick Miller, 42 was shot and killed in front of his two children while walking along 18th Street. He was carrying one of those children in a car seat.

According to D.C. Metro Police, “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, March 4, 2022, in the 2300 block of 18th Street, Northeast.”

“At approximately 8:30 am, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner,” the D.C. Metro PD said in a statement.

Miller was holding his 5-year-old child’s hand and carrying his infant at the time of his murder.

“This is a really disturbing event and we really need the public’s help in this,” D.C. Police Commander William Fitzgerald said during a press conference. “It’s one of the most horrible things we’ve had here in the fifth district in several years.”

Fitzgerald said the gunman approached Miller and fired at him several times. He said the children are now safe with their mother.

“This is just a tragedy,” Fitzgerald said.
