PITTSBURGH, PA – A woman was stopped on Sunday by TSA officers at Pittsburgh International Airport after officers observed a loaded .22 caliber revolver within a passenger’s backpack at the main security checkpoint.
The suspect was turned over to the Allegheny Police Department where officers were able to determine that the 22-year-old female passenger from Florida did not possess a concealed carry permit.
“The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified. At this time, firearms-related charges are being filed by the Allegheny County Police,” APD said in a statement. “The firearm is currently in the possession of the Allegheny County Police.”
Passengers who bring firearms into an airport checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
