Body of Missing Sturbridge Man Found by Park Ranger at Quabbin Reservoir

STURBRIDGE, MA – The body of a Sturbridge man who has been reported as missing since March 11th has been found by a Department of Conservation and Recreation ranger at the Quabbin Reservoir, Massachusetts State Police said today.

“At approximately 8:30 AM today a DCR Ranger at the Quabbin Reservoir observed a body in the lower section of the Reservoir’s spillway, approximately 20 feet from shore,” the MSPD said in a statement.

Police said divers responded and recovered the deceased adult male.

“Investigators from the Sturbridge Police Department and the State Police subsequently confirmed the deceased to be George Guttler, 71, of Sturbridge, who was reported missing by his family on March 11,” police said in a statement. “In the days that followed his going missing, state and local police agencies, along with DCR employees, conducted numerous searches for Mr. Guttler by land, air, and water.”

The investigation into Mr. Guttler’s death is ongoing and is being led by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and the State Police Detective Unit for Hampshire/Franklin Counties.
