CLARKSTOWN, NY – Police shut down lanes of Parrot Road from Germonds to the entrance of Felix Festa Middle School after a propane tank was struck during construction in a nearby lot, Clarkstown Police said.

An underground propane tank that was struck had to have its remaining contents burned out in order to reduce the risk of an uncontrolled fire or explosion.

“Eastbound lanes of Parrot Rd from Germonds Rd to the entrance of Felix Festa MS are currently closed. A propane tank was struck during construction at a nearby lot,” the department said. “Our officers, New City FD, and RC Hazmat are all on scene. The surrounding schools have been made aware of the traffic detours. The NCFD will be conducting a controlled burn to rid the underground tank of any propane that is left. Again, the schools have been notified and upon completion of this we will be reopening the roadway.”

The roadway has since been reopened.
