Utica Police Locate Gun During Traffic Stop

UTICA, NY – A Bridgewater man was arrested and charged for criminal possession of a firearm during a traffic stop in Utica.

Police said on Sunday, at approximately 6:00 pm, members of the Crime Prevention Unit partnered with Deputies from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a vehicle stop on the 1100 block of Steuben St regarding vehicle and traffic violations.

“During the course of the stop cause was developed to request the driver to exit the vehicle so that they could further interview him,” the Utica Police Department said. “As the driver did so, the officers observed a black in color semi-auto handgun on the driver’s seat that he had been concealing by sitting on it.”

Immediately, officers secured the gun and detained both occupants. The gun was found to be a loaded Taurus 709 Slim 9mm handgun.
