EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ – Police responded to the Travel Inn on the Black Horse Pike on Tuesday at around 11:36 pm to rescue seven people trapped inside a flooded motel.

“On Tuesday, at approximately 11:36 p.m., the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to the Travel Inn, 7070 Black Horse Pike, in the West Atlantic City section of the Township for the report of flooding inside a motel room due to tidal flooding from the storm,” police said. “An additional complaint was received from a person staying at the Economy Inn, 8014 Black Horse Pike at approximately 12:28 a.m.”

When the Egg Harbor City police officers arrived on the scene, waters were flowing into the rooms at both motels. At that time, the Black Horse Pike, US Route 40, had already been shut down by the State Department of Transportation and Patrol due to flooding in the roadway.

“All Egg Harbor Township Volunteer fire companies sent personnel to West Atlantic City to assist,” the police department said. “This included Cardiff, Farmington, Bargaintown, Scullville and West Atlantic City. In addition, Egg Harbor Township EMS responded and a portable warming shelter was established by Atlanticare.”

Egg Harbor Township Officers and Firefighters worked together and checked the Economy Inn, Bay Drive Motel, and the Travel Inn. In total, 7 individuals requested to be relocated and were removed from flooded motel rooms.

Temporary shelter was provided to the individuals until other arrangements were made. No parties were injured in the incident.
