HOWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ – Howell Township Business Administrator Brian Geoghegan, a Toms River resident, suggested this week that the Howell Township Council consider canceling this year’s Howell Day celebration.
Geoghegan cited a construction project at Soldier Memorial Park during the event’s regularly scheduled time and suggested the council host another event elsewhere in lieu of the annual Howell Day celebration one of the biggest events in the town each year.
Councilmembers were opposed to completely canceling the day. Evelyn O’Donnell suggested moving the event later in the year and branding it as a fall festival.
Still, Geoghegan pushed the council to cancel the event, citing vendor shortages and entertainer availability.
In the end, the council shot down Geoghegan’s request to cancel the event, saying the event will still be held on September 24th, but possibly in Oak Glen Park where the event was historically hosted prior to the opening of Solider Memorial Park.
