Police Say 17-Year-Old Suspect in Custody in Long Reach High School Stabbing

COLUMBIA, MD – The Howard County Police Department has announced it has arrested a 17-year-old involved in a stabbing incident outside Long Reach High School Thursday morning. At this time, police have not released the suspect’s name and due to his age, may not in the future.

Charges are still pending.

On Thursday morning, Howard County police responded to a stabbing incident that occurred between two students in the parking lot of Long Reach High School around 11 a.m.

“An 18-year-old male student was injured and taken to Shock Trauma by ambulance. He is in serious but stable condition. The school resource officer (SRO) was on scene and rendered aid to the victim in less than a minute,” HCPD said in a statement. “The 17-year-old suspect fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and police are actively searching for him.”

Investigators believe the two students were engaged in an altercation for an unknown reason that resulted in the stabbing. The school moved into a modified lockdown while police investigated.
