Auxiliary Police Officer Recognized for Saving Four Dogs from Burning Home

RONKONKOMA, NY – A Long Island auxiliary police captain, Jamorn Chindananta immediately sprang into action when he noticed a neighbor’s home was on fire, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Once at his neighbor’s home, he was notified of four dogs still trapped inside the burning house.

“Chindananta responded to his neighbor’s home on Baeck Street in Ronkonkoma when he noticed black smoke coming from the home and encountered a female resident in the garage who said her four dogs were still in the house,” the agency said. “Chindananta and the resident removed the dogs before the home became fully engulfed in fire.”

The Suffolk County Police Department said Chindananta has served as an auxiliary officer for 16 years.

After removing the dogs to safety, he then notified residents of adjacent homes to evacuate. Firefighters from four departments responded to extinguish the fire and the cause is being investigated by Arson Section detectives.
