Two Arrested After Fleeing Police, Gun, Fanny Pack Full of Crack and Heroin Seized

SYRACUSE, NY – Two suspects were arrested after fleeing Syracuse Police Officers. Arresting officers found a loaded 9mm handgun and a fanny pack full of drugs during their investigation.

According to the Syracuse Police Department, on Friday, at around 1:18 A.M., officers responded to the 700 block of Park Avenue for a suspicious person with a weapon complaint.

“Information was developed that two male suspects were in the area, and one was armed with a handgun. Officers Bebernitz and Cerullo responded, and two suspects were detained after a brief foot pursuit,” the department said.

Police arrested Shelton Thompson,19, and Joed Esquilin, 26.

“During the pursuit, officers located a discarded Taurus GZC 9mm loaded handgun with 12 rounds in the magazine that Thompson dropped during the chase,” the department said. “Additionally, a black fanny pack, with a large amount of crack/cocaine, heroin, and $799 in cash was possessed by Esquilin. Both males were arrested for felony weapons and drug charges and transported to booking without incident.”
