WATCHUNG, NJ – Watchung High School was put on lockdown Wednesday and regional police response was dispatched after a report of a threatening phone call received by the school earlier in the day.

Later, police determined the call did not pose a credible threat.

“After a thorough investigation by the WHRHS Security Team, Warren Police, SCPO, as well as responding law enforcement agencies from surrounding municipalities, the threat received via telephone earlier today has been deemed not credible,” the department said on Wednesday. “The lockdown is being lifted and the students are being dismissed.”

The incident occurred one day after a deadly mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas that claimed the lives of 19 students 2 teachers and another adult.
