Off-Duty Elmwood Firefighter Helps to Capture Fugitive

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ – A police chase that started in Paterson with a warrant for the arrest of Stanley Edwards, 30, ended in Elmwood Park at around 11 pm on Tuesday. Edwards was wanted for attempted murder.

According to reports, Edwards fled police and led officers on a multijurisdictional pursuit, crashing into a parked car on Sterling Place before bailing.

Police units from multiple agencies established a perimeter and using boats in the Passaic River and drones, were unable to find him.

Hours later, an Edwards asked an off-duty Elmwood Park firefighter for a ride in a location about a half-mile from where the police search was being conducted. The firefighter contacted the police who were able to then apprehend Edwards.
