Boater Arrested for Boating While Intoxicated on the West River

GALESVILLE, MD – An Upper Marlboro man has been charged with boating while intoxicated by Maryland Natural Resources Police officers on Memorial Day.

According to the the MNRP, officers were on patrol in the area of the West River Proper in Galesville when they observed a vessel exceeding six knots.

“While approaching the boat, the officer observed multiple empty beer cans and three occupants. According to the officer, while conducting a vessel stop, he detected an odor of alcohol coming from the operator Nicholas Bennett, 23. When asked, Bennett admitted to consuming two alcoholic beverages. Bennett’s eyes were also bloodshot and glassy,” a report by the agency alleged. “Officers escorted him back to shore and administered a field sobriety test. After obtaining the results, police issued Bennett four citations with impaired boating, one for negligent operation, reckless operation, and exceeding six knots.”
