OXFORD, CT – Copper thieves stipped a home on Oakwood Drive in Oxford of all of its copper piping and fittings over the past few days while it was unoccupied. Now, police are asking people in the neighborhood if they saw anything suspicious at the home this past week.
“The Oxford Resident Trooper’s Office is investigating the theft of copper pipes from a residence on Oakwood Drive. Sometime between 11:00 AM on 05/31/22 and 10:00 AM on 06/01/22 someone forcibly entered an unoccupied house and cut out and removed a large quantity of copper plumbing pipes and fittings,” police reported. “This process obviously caused considerable damage as well.”
Copper currently sells for over $4 per pound on the scrap metal market. The average home has between 300 and 600 pounds of copper inside.
