Chris Smith Breaks GOP Ranks, Votes With Democrats on Gun Bill Hours After Election Win

TOMS RIVER, NJ – 24 hours after winning his Republican primary election in New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District, Congressman Chris Smith, a Virginia resident, sided with Democrats in the latest sweeping federal gun control package.

Smith voted to ban bump stocks, raise the minimum gun-buying age to 21 and voted to ban ghost guns.

Smith was just a handful of House Republicans to break party ranks and vote on the bill being pushed by Democrats, including President Joe Biden, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and New York Senator Chuck Schumer.

Smith and other Republican defectors help the Democrats pass the bill to raise the minimum gun purchase age to 21. Without Republican support, that measure would have failed.

Under that bill, Americans under the age of 21 would not be allowed to purchase guns privately. However, they would still be eligible to be drafted into military service to be issued a free automatic weapon by the U.S. government to fight the next war decided upon by D.C. politicians.
