MONROE, NJ – Police in Monroe are investigating a fatal crash that took place Friday night in the northbound lane of U.S. 42.

A police investigation at the scene revealed that a 2019 GMC Terrain was traveling North on US Highway 42 and entered the left turn lane at the intersection of Georgia Avenue intending to turn left.

“A Hyundai Elantra was traveling South on NJ 42, approaching the intersection,” police said. “At a point within the intersection and within the Southbound lanes of US Highway 42, the GMC failed to yield right of way to the Hyundai and initiated a left turn in front of it. As a result, the GMC’s passenger front corner contacted the driver front corner of the Hyundai.”

The impact caused disabling damage to both vehicles. The Hyundai’s driver was entrapped within the vehicle and needed to be extricated by fire department personnel. As a result of the crash the driver of the GMC Terrain suffered fatal injuries. The driver was pronounced deceased at Jefferson – Washington Township Hospital at 23:45 hours.
