Absecon Man Who Fired Gun Inside Business then Shot by Cops Charged

ABSECON, NJ – A man who produced a gun inside an Absecon business on Thursday and fired at least one round has been arrested and charged. Jalial Whitted, 37 of Absecon was charged with multiple gun violations on Thursday after an incident that took place on May 24th.

“At 9:35 a.m. members of the Absecon and Pleasantville Police Departments responded to the 700 block of New Road, Absecon for a man with a gun inside a commercial property,” police reported. “A review of video surveillance established Whitted produced a gun inside the store, causing the employees to flee outside.  While still inside the store Mr. Whitted discharged at least one round.”

A confrontation between Whitted and responding officers led to the suspect being shot.

“As per New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines, the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) was notified on the day of the incident. The DCJ has designated the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office as the Independent Investigative Unit for the shooting with the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity & Accountability acting as the Independent Supervisory Reviewer,” police said
