Laurel Avenue Remains Closed After Water Main Break Causes Road Collapse

HOWELL, NJ – A water main break on Laurel Road in Holmdel has gone from bad to worse after a portion of the roadway collapsed from unsettled ground washed out by the flowing water yesterday. Police said the closure could extend well into Wednesday while repairs are made.

“Laurel Avenue will be closed until further notice due to a water main break between Avon Drive and Boxwood Terrace,” the Holmdel Police Department said. “NJ American Water and Monmouth County Public Works have been notified and will be responding out. Please plan an alternate route for this morning. Contact NJ American Water if you are without water or are having any water related issued issues. Please avoid the area and drive safe.”

Today, the department reported a portion of the roadway has collapsed. Laurel Ave will likely be closed for an extended amount of time. Plan an alternate route.
