Two Dead in Crash in Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating two fatalities that occurred on the late afternoon of July 10, 2022, in the area of Georgia Ave. and May St.

At approximately 7:44 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a traffic collision.

The investigation by detectives has determined that the driver of a black Jeep Cherokee was traveling southbound on Georgia Ave. The driver of a black Toyota Camry was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Georgia Ave. onto May St. The Jeep struck the Toyota, pushing it off the road and into the yard of a residence.

The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The driver and passenger in the Toyota suffered life-threatening injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as 79-year-old Prabodh Vaid, of Silver Spring. The passenger has been identified as 77-year-old Nirmala Vaid, of Silver Spring.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
