WESTFIELD, NJ – A resident in Westfield reported to police that she believes a suspicious scooter rider in her neighborhood might have been responsible for an alleged break-in recently.

Police aren’t so sure.

“A resident of the 400 block of West Dudley Avenue stated that on July 1 or July 2, 2022, she observed a suspicious individual riding a motorized scooter at a slow rate of speed down West Dudley Avenue,” police reported. “She went on to state that she again saw the same individual on July 4 at approximately 1800 hours on Brightwood Avenue and then again on West Dudley Avenue.”

Police said the woman was unable to describe the motorized scooter.

“She stated that this suspicious incident may have been related to an apparent break-in in the area, though nothing had been reported to have happened in the last day or two,” the department said.
