Camden Man Charged for Murder of Charles Copling

CAMDEN, NJ – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Charles Copling, III of Camden in June.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Derrick Miller, 36, of Camden, was charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection to the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Charles Copling III of Camden on June 17th.

Police officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Decatur Street that morning in reference to a ShotSpotter activation.

“Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers transported the victim to Cooper University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:00 p.m.,” police reported.

Miller is currently incarcerated in the Camden County Correctional Facility on other charges.
