GREENWICH< CT – The Greenwich Police Department was at the right place at the right time Friday to capture two men from New York City in a stolen car on South Water Street.

According to police, β€œOn Friday at about 2:30 am a Greenwich Police patrol officer observed two males hiding behind a parked car on South Water Street. Both subjects started to run away, and the officer was able to detain one of them while the other fled. Additional officers immediately responded to the area.”

Greenwich Police Issued the following report of the incident:

Shortly thereafter, a different officer observed two males sitting inside a parked car on South Water Street which was determined to be stolen out of Hastings on the Hudson, NY. These two suspects abandoned the car and began to run away with officers in foot pursuit. An extensive search of the neighborhood began which included the use of two police K9s. Officers located two additional vehicles in the area which were identified as stolen. While conducting their search of the area, officers stopped a passing taxi and discovered one of the wanted suspects in the rear of the car.

A few hours later a Byram resident reported to GPD that their car alarm had been triggered by a smashed window. An officer responding to this report observed two males sitting in a parked car on Chestnut Street who resembled the suspects who had previously run away. Upon being confronted by the officer these suspects fled. The car from which they fled was found to have been stolen from Pine Street in Byram. A short time later, a caller advised GPD that there were two males running near Exit 2 of I-95. Officers responded and apprehended the last two suspects. In the end, four suspects were arrested (one a juvenile) and four stolen cars (three from Greenwich) were recovered.
