Woman Sought in Thursday Morning Newark Armed Robbery

NEWARK, NJ – Police in Newark are searching for a woman wanted for an armed robbery early Thursday morning. According to Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave III, Yolanda K. Edwards, 49, of Newark is wanted in connection for the incident.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a call about a robbery that occurred at approximately 2:03 a.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Chadwick Avenue.

“Edwards was with the victim, but left the apartment with the door open. Moments later, an unknown man with a firearm entered the apartment demanding money from the victim. He hit the man in the face with the gun and took $3,500 before fleeing,” police said. “The suspect is described as a Black male, who was wearing a blue T-shirt, cargo-style pants, and a blue mask covering his face.”

Edwards, a Black female, is described as 5’1” and 220 pounds. She has brown eyes, black hair, a medium brown complexion, and Tattoos on the middle of her chest.

Interim Director Malave urges anyone with information about Edwards to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
