WASHINGTON, D.C. – 50 year-old Shanteari Weems of Maryland is due in D.C. court today after authorities say she shot her husband. She was arrested on Thursday and charged with Assault With The Intent To Kill.

Weems told police she shot her husband because he had been sexually abusing the children at the daycare facility that she runs. The shooting happened on 1300 Maryland Avenue at the Mandarin Hotel in Southwest D.C. on Thursday evening.

Police say, “At approximately 7:40 pm, members of the First District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male, inside of a hotel room, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested by responding officers. The detectives’ investigation revealed that this offense was domestic in nature.”
