Woman Slashed With Box Cutter in New York City’s Times Square in Broad Daylight

NEW YORK, NY – Times Square in Midtown Manhattan is often believed to be one of the safe spaces in the increasingly violent city, but on Sunday, a woman was slashed by a box cutter in broad daylight.

The New York City Police Department said the assault happened near 7th Avenue and West 42nd Street at around 10 am when an unknown male approached a woman from behind and slashed her with a box cutter.

Police said the attack was unprovoked.

In a video released by the NYPD, the man is seen approaching the 59-year-old woman from behind, raising the blade in the air, and lunging at her, slashing her.

The suspect fled eastbound on 42nd Street before police arrived. The woman was treated for her wounds at Bellvue Hospital where she was reportedly in stable condition.
