Newark Police Searching for Woman Who Stole $1,200 from BP Gas Station Register

NEWARK, NJ – After a clerk let a woman he knew behind the counter at the BP gas station on Springfield Avenue, the woman stole $1,200 from the register and fled the store.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Markeda D. Williams, 48, of Newark, in connection with a theft that occurred on Friday

“Police responded to the mini-market at BP Gas Station, located at 584 Springfield Avenue, on a call of theft. A cashier allowed a woman he knows, who is not an employee, to stand behind the register. When the cashier left the register, the suspect abruptly left the store and $1,200.00 had been stolen,” Police said.

Detectives investigating this incident have identified Markeda D. Williams as a suspect in this incident and obtained a warrant for her arrest.
