FRANKLIN TWP., N.J. – A Somerset man has been charged for attempted murder for a stabbing he committed at a gas station in July.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Matthew B. Hall, 32 was arrested and changed.

“On Saturday, July 23, 2022, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Franklin Township Police Department responded to an area hospital in response to a report of an individual suffering from stab wounds. Upon responding to the hospital, patrol officers located an adult male suffering from two stab wounds. Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate,” Prosecutor McDonald said in a statement on Monday. “The victim indicated that the incident initially began as a verbal altercation at a gas station in Franklin Township. During the verbal altercation, the suspect, later identified as Matthew Hall put his hands on the victim.”

The victim responded by shoving Hall.

According to police, Hall then fled the gas station and retrieved a weapon from the trunk of his vehicle. As the victim drove away from the gas station, Hall attempted to strike the victim with the weapon.

“Hall then proceeded into his vehicle and followed the victim. While stopped at a traffic light on Demott Lane and Easton Ave., Hall pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle, and began to stab the victim aiming at this neck and chest. The victim attempted to block the assault resulting in stab wounds to his hand and bicep,” McDonald continued.
