Dog Attacked by Man in Prospect Park Dies During Surgery

NEW YORK, NY – Moose and his owner, identified only as Jessica were attacked while walking together in Prospect Park two weeks ago. A man approached them and threw liquid at Jessica before attacking her and beating Moose, a mixed-breed golden retriever with a stick.

After emergency surgery and $14,000 in veterinarian bills, Moose died on the surgery table.

“Moose did not survive through surgery. I’m absolutely shattered, angry, and heartbroken. Moose was my life and my world. I am working hard through incredible grief to respond to everyone—each and every single message helps get me through this time. Please know I appreciate each and every donation and all the incredibly kind, comforting words,” Jessica said.

New Yorkers came together and have raised slightly more than $14,000 to help Jessica pay for her vet bills, but her beloved moose is gone.

“Early Wednesday morning, my dog and I were attacked by a man between the Picnic House and the Villa in Prospect Park,” Jessica recounted. “Thank god for a nearby woman that screamed and bikers that jumped off their bikes. My dog, Moose, had to be rushed to the vet for emergency dental surgery and x-rays to check for damage to his jaw. One tooth was completely shattered and had to be extracted, the tooth next to it was chipped.”

Jessica praised the work Dr. Silverman, his son, Dr. Nick Silverman, and the entire Prospect Park Animal Clinic staff, who took him in immediately.

“The experience was genuinely horrific. We live across from the park and consider it our second home and a sanctuary. I will spend all my time snuggling my pup and giving him all the (soft) treats. Any and all donations towards Moose’s vet bills are incredibly appreciated,” she said.
