Utica police respond to downtown shooting at basketball game

UTICA, NY – Police in Utica responded to a shooting at a downtown gymnasium hosting a basketball game. According to police, several shots were fired, but nobody was injured in the shooting.

On Wednesday, at approximately 9:10PM officers in the vicinity of the 700 block of Washington St heard what they believed to be several shots being fired in the downtown area. At the same time several calls were received that shots were being fired inside and outside of 726 Washington St during a basketball game.

“It was reported that several individuals entered the building while the game was being played and engaged in an argument with parties inside,” police said. “At that point one male fired at least two shots inside the gym and then fled. Additional shots were then fired outside of building, where at least two additional spent shell casings were located.”

Thankfully no one was injured during the shooting as the gymnasium was highly occupied.
